Making the Steel Sculpture:  Ingvar

IMG_9473.JPG

After several years of thinking about taking Frank Holte's Artistic Welding course at Off The Wall in Stratford, I finally took the plunge at the end of summer in 2021.
I had never welded before or done any of the other skills that were needed to complete the task.  But I did.
I was very tired at the end, but also very happy with the results.

Below are photos of some of the steps that led up to the final product:
the planning, the drawing, the cutting out individual pieces with a plasma cutter, the grinding, the hammering to add texture and form, plus the welding.  With welding the Ingvar
pieces together, there was also the welding of the frame, onto which Ingvar and the flowers/branch with leaves were attached.
Frank Holte, the instructor, helped me immensely.  It was a very labour-intensive, 5-day course.

Here is Ingvar finally home, waiting to be properly mounted on the brick wall.  This very heavy sculpture weighs 40+ pounds, 18-19 kilograms.
